CSAP Writing Prompt

Suppose a new sixth grade student is transferring to your school. Write a well-developed paragraph in which you give advice to this student about being a sixth grader at your school. Include a reason for giving this advice.

Exemplar – Do you know how to fit in with others at a new school? I have a lot of experience in this matter. When you attend a new school you must try to make friends by introducing yourself and making eye contact with the person you are speaking to. Its always important to smile when trying to make friends. I know that when someone smiles at me I feel pretty important so smiling goes a long way when making friends. Also, never talk about yourself unless the person you are speaking to asks a question about you. I like to ask questions about the person I am trying to befriend. Everyone likes to talk about themselves so the best way to make friends at your new school is to have the person talk about themselves! Making friends at a new school is the most important thing you need to do. When you have friends they can help you adjust to your new surroundings by showing you how to get around the campus. I am hoping that you take my advice and try to make friends at your new school!
